A Week and a Couple Days
It's been a little over a week since Tiny Em had his surgery. He has been home since Monday, and it's been pretty crazy here at the Miller's. Holden has been back and forth to his auntie's house, and he thinks he lives there... Let's investigate this together...
So, he was dropped off at TeTe's house last Monday night (the night before surgery). He LOVES it there. He can play in the dirt, go on the trampoline, play with "his boys." etc. I didn't want him to go without mom or dad for too long, so Robert and I made sure to spend some time at Sarah's as well. We did a dinner or two and gave Holden some extra attention, but he didn't want mom or dad. A week goes by and...
Well, ToTo dropped him off at our house Monday night. Em had been home for a couple hours, and he was just chillin. Holden immediately wants to go back to his aunt's house and says something on the lines of, "I don't live here. I go to TeTe!" Needless to say, we were hurt by a 3 year old. Keep in mind that my husband and I are emotional at this point. Our baby is home from this huge surgery, our 3 year old wants nothing to do with us or the baby. Sometimes you just feel like a useless parent. Holden ended up misbehaving a lot that Monday night. He was most likely feeding off of our emotions, and he was living in his 3 year old moment. He got a couple timeouts and Hubby made him go to bed early. Not a fun night for Holden.
Tuesday... I think?
The next morning, Holden was much better. He was playing with his brother as much as he usually did. A couple smiles and jumps to make Em laugh. Em happened to be super needy that day. He just wanted all the attention and then some. He wanted to be held, he wanted to be fed, then play on mat, then a nap, then chew toys, etc. All of my attention was on this baby, and the doctor had said, "He will need extra attention and more sleep while he heals and gets into a new routine."
Ok, what about my three year old you ask? Well, he was SUPER needy, too. Keep in mind, that when he is at TeTe's house, he has 4 other kids to ask for things. He just goes room to room and asks, "What you doing? You wanna play? Milk Please." This kid... He got so used to his needs being met immediately, that when he came home he suddenly didn't understand the word, "WAIT."
It was as if he did it on purpose every. single. time. I just sat down with Em. I got the bottle ready and everything. As soon as Em and I are comfortable, Holden says, "Juice please!"
"ughhhhhhh are you kidding me, I just sat down!"
Do you know how hard it is to maneuver this baby? Let me explain: He cannot be picked up from under his armpits, and you can't pull his arms. You have to scoop him up by his butt with one hand and support his neck with the other hand. He legit feels like a glass doll that I am going to break. I'm so scared to hurt him and his sternum. Either way, I get the three year old juice. He wins.
Luckily, TeTe decided to take the bugger shopping and to breakfast. That was a HUGE break. Not only that, but he spent the night AGAIN. That spoiled brat. I don't think there is anyway to explain the bond that Sarah and Holden have. They are weirdos. They have the same birthday, and they are just perfect together. He really loves his auntie, and she adores him. I am so lucky that these two have an amazing bond. I appreciate that she helps out soooo much as well. I would be lost without her.
The rest of the week...
The rest of the week has been pretty smooth. Holden is learning to be more gentle with his brother, and Em's schedule is getting a bit more regular now. He is MUCH happier. He is eating more, and he is just a gem. Holden's caterpillars have officially transformed to Monarch Butterflies. They stay in his room away from the cat. I am getting used to have my two kiddos home together, as it is our first Summer together. We went in the spa last night, and Em went to bed on time. It's new, different, but finally getting regular. This is our life now.
